Math Information
Welcome to the SMHS Math Information Page
Students who are interested in math acceleration should speak to their current math teacher to discuss their recommendations and potential impact to their future math education.
Please note: The SMHS Counseling Department recommends and encourages students to take all math classes here at SMHS where we can guarantee the quality of teaching and curriculum. If you are still interested in taking out of district courses to accelerate, please use the following process:
SMHS Out of District Math Acceleration Process:
-
Review the Math Acceleration FAQ to understand risks and responsibilities of math acceleration.
-
Meet with your current math teacher and obtain a signature on the Teacher Conversation Form (available in the counseling office).
-
Complete the online Outside Course Pre-Approval Form.
-
Attend Math Information Night via Zoom - Wednesday, March 6th at 6pm (highly recommended).
-
Submit completed transcripts to your grade level counselor by August 9, 2024.
Notes:
-
Students will not be placed into the next level of math until they have completed their out-of-district course with a satisfactory grade.
-
Placement in a subsequent course cannot be guaranteed if there are space limitations.
-
THIS PROCESS ONLY APPLIES TO CURRENT SMHS STUDENTS. INCOMING 9TH GRADE STUDENTS MUST WORK WITH THEIR MIDDLE SCHOOL COUNSELOR. We look forward to assisting you in August!
