Incoming 9th Grade Students and Families
San Mateo Programming Nights (in-person):
Meet with a school counselor to select courses and take a world language placement assessment.
- General Programming (In-person): March 19th, 20th [4:00-6:00] @ SMHS Library (no appointment required - stop in anytime on either of these two nights).
- World Language Placement Testing: (in SMHS Library during Programming Nights)
- March 19 - Spanish/French
- March 20 - Spanish/ Mandarin Chinese

If you do not wish to attend a programming night, please complete the form online, or drop off your completed paper form to the SMHS main office by March 21, 2025.

8th Grade Middle School Presentations
We had a great time visiting each middle school during the first week of March! During our presentations, students received a folder with important course programming information, including a course selection form. Please bring this paper with you to one of our programming nights listed above. You can also choose to complete the form online or drop off your completed paper form to the SMHS main office by March 21, 2025.

SMHS Program Planning Directions, Forms & Resources for 2025-26
- 9th Grade Programming Directions/Resources - This document will guide you through the process of completing the Program Planning Sheet that you received during our middle school presentations. It includes links to the Course Request Sheet, Math Acceleration Policy, Frequently Asked Questions Documents, and links to course preview videos!
- Home Language Survey [DUE March 10th] - Students will be asked to complete this during our middle school visits (3/3 - 3/8). If you missed our visit, please complete this survey to help us determine the most appropriate course placement. Students requesting to take any course in their home language (Chinese, French, or Spanish), as well as students who have completed two years of a world language in middle school and are requesting to be placed in level 3 or higher, will need to take a placement test during on of our in-person programming nights (see above).

- Student Medical Form - Please bring this completed form to 9th Grade Orientation in August.
- Assistance Request Form - Use this form to submit questions and a counselor will respond with answers.
