Arriving late to class without an excused note.

Tardies 1-9: Teacher may assign consequences as described in teacher’s classroom management plan. Teacher may call and inform the student’s parents.

3. Excessive Truancies 48900 (k)- Caught in the act of cutting Excessive Truancies 48900 (k) – Reported as cutting on record

Truant absences/cuts from a class for one period without permission and/or failed to clear the UNV (unverified) absence after 3rd day.

Student meets with AP/Dean, assigned 1 hour of ‘choices’. Parent/guardian contact.  

Student meets with AP/Dean, assigned 2 hours of ‘choices’. Parent/guardian contact.

T Letter #1: sent when the student has cut 14 periods, parents should contact the student’s counselor if there are errors.

T Letter #2: sent when the student has cut 28 periods, parents are required to attend the scheduled truancy meeting with the SMHS Administration and Staff.

T Letter #3: sent when the student has cut 35 periods, parents are required to attend the scheduled truancy meeting. These students may be placed on a truancy agreement and referred to the District Student Attendance Review Board, with possible reassignment to another high school or Court and Community School.

5. Cheating/Academic Dishonesty Policy 48900 (k)

Submitting the same assignment without teacher AP/Deanproval, giving or receiving test information, allowing others to copy an assignment or test, improper electronic capturing, recording, or photographing of exams and/or other testing materials, working on and/or completing an assignment collaboratively without teacher authorization, stealing testing materials, pressuring or encouraging another student to violate this Academic Integrity Policy, or, planning with another to commit a violation to this policy. Any violation of plagiarism/cheating. Please see student handbook for definition of plagiarism.

1 day Suspension

If a violation has occurred that involves the alteration or falsification of records or assessments and/or theft, attempted theft, of records or assessments, the consequence will automatically be elevated to a second offense.

All consequences listed in First Offense plus the following:

Removal from participation or having a leadership role in a club, scholarship group, student government, athletic team or other extra-curricular activity for the remainder of the semester/season. If infraction occurs at the end of a semester or season, the removal will apply to the following semester/season.

Drop F in the class in which the infraction occurred

Conference with a School Administrator, Counselor, Parent/Guardian, Student and Teacher.

Teacher/Counselor notification for letters of recommendation

3 day Suspension

All consequences in First & Second Offenses and:

7. Defiance/Disruption (Classroom), or Use of Disrespectful Language 48900 (k)

Students must respond to the authority of all school personnel and follow their directions. Students are expected to conduct themselves and behave properly and AP/Deanpropriately before, during, and after school, and at school sponsored events and activities held on or off campus. Student who disrupt the orderly educational procedures of the school or refuse to comply with reasonable requests or directions of school staff will result in a referral to the Assistant Principal/Dean.

The Administration reserves the right to revoke all extracurricular privileges, including commencement participation.

11. Dress Code 48900 (k) Violations: spaghetti strAP/Deans, tank tops, sagging pants, gang/drug clothing

The following guidelines shall apply to all regular school activities:

Clothes shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments. Shirts or tops must be worn at all times and must cover the back, front and sides of the torso. .

Shoes must be worn at all times.

Hats, caps and other head coverings shall not cover the face unless for religious purposes. Masks are not allowed unless for a medical purpose.

Students CANNOT Wear Clothing, jewelry and personal items (backpacks, fanny packs, gym bags, water bottles etc.) that depict:

Violent language or images

Images or language depicting drugs, alcohol, tobacco, nicotine, e-cigarette or vaping, hate speech, profanity, pornography (or any illegal item or activity) or the use of the same

Images or language that create a hostile or intimidating environment based on any protected class (defined as race, ethnicity, country of origin, religion).

12. Violation of parking privileges

Students are expected to have a current parking permit displayed in their car when parking in SMHS parking lot. Student must abide by guidelines stated on parking permit AP/Deanplication.
