Public Broadcasting Service (P.B.S.) Reporting Lab
San Mateo High School Journalism
The journalism class is very excited to partner with P.B.S.’s Student Reporting Lab (S.R.L.) program. Through S.R.L., students will learn to plan, produce, and edit their own video news stories about issues important to their school and community. P.B.S. also provides mentorship opportunities through local affiliate stations that allow students to work closely with a professional journalist to better tell their stories in a polished and professional way.
“The P.B.S. NewsHour Student Reporting Labs initiative is building the next generation of public media with a unique digital journalism curriculum, local P.B.S. station mentors and the opportunity to tell important community stories to the world.
The program creates transformational education experiences for middle and high school students in classrooms and after-school environments. Students engage in a powerful form of journalistic inquiry, media production and student-centered learning that build critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, news literacy and communication skills.
By giving them a voice and the opportunity to reach millions of people via the P.B.S. NewsHour broadcast and digital platforms, the program inspires youth to speak up and be part of the solution.”
